Thursday, January 15th, 2009

Cayuse Western American Gallery sent our Chef Concierge at Teton Mountain Lodge & Spa an e- blast reminding us all about Art Walk reading as follows:

“The Cayuse Western Americana Gallery, in association with the Jackson Hole Gallery Association, is holding an ArtWalk this Thursday night January 15th  from 5 – 8pm.  There will be appetizers and spiced wine, and plenty to look at on a cold winter evening.

At Cayuse Western Americana, we’ll have all our usual unique vintage cowboy, cowgirl, and Native American pieces, as well as, our new Bemis Bros. Bag Company’s Calendar of North American Game Animals framed lithographs. These are from 1903, and have great color and ArtNouveau graphics. We have all twelve from the Grizzly bear to the Polar bear!”

Art Walk is lots of fun and it’s free! Head to downtown Jackson tonight and see what’s going on at all the spectacular galleries around town. Start in Jackson town square 5-8 pm.

TRG: Weekend Guide

Friday, December 5th, 2008

There’s quite a bit to do this weekend in Jackson Hole. In addition to the obvious option of skiing, shopping locally is where it’s at Friday and Saturday.

Kick off your weekend with a trip to the Teton Art Lab in downtown Jackson and check out local artists take on “wallpaper.” Around 20 emerging artists will showcase their art, which will decorate the walls of the Art Lab. Attend ”Wallpaper: Works on Paper” opening reception tonight from 6-8 pm. The show is free and will hang through December.

If you’ve still got the dedication to local art fueling your fire, make sure to attend Saturday’s Art Association 44th annual Christmas Bazaar. 120 local and regional artists will showcase their passionate work at the Snow King Ice Arena. Expect to see everything from artisanal chocolates and mustard to hand sewn mittens and miscellaneous decorative items.

This is a great opportunity to support local and regional people taking the time to sustainably create handmade goods. Perhaps you are really watching your wallet we still would urge attendance just to see what wonderful goods locals are producing here in Jackson and Wyoming at large. $2 contribution 10:00-5:30

Sunday Art Scene in Jackson Hole

Sunday, November 2nd, 2008

Today is one of those days in Jackson Hole. It’s rainy in the off-season and you don’t feel like cleaning your house (again). Whatever to do? You need to stay inside and you are tired of NetFlix? Head to The National Museum of Wildlife Art for Harvest on the Hill: First Sundays. Today! If you are a JH local, you can get in for free from 1-5 pm.

In addition to their longstanding and impressive collection of fine art, the Wildlife Art museum currently offers some intriguing expeditions including “Ritual Abstractions: Aboriginal Abstractions of Australia & New Guinea” and “Fragile Nature: Photographs by Joel Sartore.”

So, in conclusion, if you’ve got nothing to do to today, why not seek refuge in your local art museum. It’s a ideal place to reflect and absorb all the culture, entertainment and enjoyment that art contributes to our lives. Especially on a rainy day.

This helpful rainy-day suggestion is brought to you by Terra Resort Group including Hotel Terra Jackson Hole, Teton Mountain Lodge & Spa and The Inn at Jackson Hole.

Weekend Guide: A Midautmn Art Dream

Friday, October 24th, 2008

In addition to encouraging your attendance at the Off Square Theatre Company’sfall performance of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, let us convince thou anon go to the unusual Art Sale surrounding it.

On Saturday, October 25th come and scoop up someone else’s recycled masterpiece at A Midautmn Art Dream.  Sure the concept is odd but you never know, the piece you bought from your starving artist friend (and secretly have been dying to get rid of) could be someone else’s Mona Lisa.

According to the Art Association, the fundraiser brings “New Life To Your Old Art” as “ ‘Recycling’ reaches a new level with this innovative and exciting new event” including a variety of artworks “left forgotten in basements and attics.” Now locals have donated this junk (we kid, we kid) to re-sale and art connoisseurs may rediscover the magic of a rejected avant guard masterpiece or a priceless antique.

Here’s the greatest part, event proceeds support the Art Association’s art education and outreach programs. So on this Midautmn day, in the words of the old Bard himself, you ask: To Go, or Not to Go? If you’ve ever seen Antique Road Show, we think that answers the question.
