There’s no better way to do it this year. This is the most affordable way to ski the legendary slopes of Jackson Hole Mountain Resort…and maybe you can throw in a little  Yellowstone snowmobile action on the side for some of the best winter wildlife watching on the planet. Perhaps you will even catch a glimpse of Rudolph somewhere out there in the Wyoming wilderness? Jackson Hole Ripper to Blog for Terra Resort Group

Thursday, November 13th, 2008

Get stoked for winter with this piece put together by local freesskier Rob LaPier. This beloved Jackson Hole Freeride Coach (for the Jackson Hole Ski Club) is one of Jackson’s finest big-mountain skiers and is also a dedicated environmentalist. Here’s just a sneak peek at what Rob brings to the table.

Fun Story behind this one minute adrenaline-rush inspiring video. With the help of cameraman Chris Kitchen, co-founder of KGB Productions, a local, environmentally focused film production company, Rob assembled and edited KGB’s footage and submitted it to an on-line contest put on by The North Face. Viewers decided and voted Rob the winner for a sponsorship by The North Face. Rob went on to win an award with Powder Magazine and he is on a roll…..

This year, Rob took third place at the U.S. Suburu Freeskiing Open 2008 delivering a stellar performance amidst Jackson’s healthy snow pack. He was Robbed of #1!

We are pleased to welcome him to Live Well and will look forward to featuring his adventures, so stay tuned!

Look for future posts from Rob courtesy of Terra Resort Group located in beautiful Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Check out our properties: Hotel Terra Jackson Hole, Teton Mountain Lodge & Spa and The Inn at Jackson Hole.

Weekend Guide: Re-live Jackson Hole’s Winter ’08

Friday, November 7th, 2008

About this time last year, Jackson Hole filmmaker Darell Miller premiered a movie entitled 300“- a tribute (or happy goodbye) to the winter of 2006-2007, which saw the weak accumulation of only 300″ of snow. This year and this weekend, in fact, Darell (and Storm Show Studios) did some math and doubled the number 300 for 600″ to appropriately recall the winter of 2007-2008 when a whopping 600 inches fell on Jackson Hole.

Shred heads will once again flood Snow King tonight to revel in remembrance of that unbelievable snowfall. It was a year when all sorts of nutty nut’s (like only Jackson Hole can produce) could strut their stuff on first descents and heart-stopping terrain that hasn’t been skied in years and, in some cases, decades.

Given the quantity and quality of the snow of ’08, this footage promises to be a nail biter and will surely induce a NARcatizing effect on the viewer. As winter nears, the crowd will be rowdy with anticipation and this community collaboration has many of the local no-name, out-of-their-mind skiers in the audience. It’s a great chance to see the fine crop of skiers and riders Jackson Hole’s legendary terrain produces.

Portion of tickets benefit the BTNF Avalanche Forecast Center, Silent Auction and Raffle Proceeds will benefit the Brent Newton Memorial Foundation

Tickets Sold At: JH Wine Co., Teton Village Sports, Cloudveil Outlet, Wilson Backcountry Sports

Weekend Guide: Get Your Swap On!

Friday, October 24th, 2008

Greetings Gearheads! Alas, the time has come again to feed the addiction and accumulate more crap at the Jackson Hole Ski Club’s annual Ski Swap.

Jacksonite’s typically kick-off the off-season with this much anticipated event  arming  themselves with any and everything they could possibly play with in  the long winter. We’re talking skis: fat and carvers, cross country and skate. Snowboards of all varieties. Poles, backpacks, skins, avalanche gear, hats, gloves, you name it. For the whole other beast in you, now is the time to pick up all things hockey with screaming deals on skates, helmets and pads.

For the masses that take this event seriously, it means war. Move swiftly and don’t be swayed by someone trying to talk you out of purchasing that dirt cheap pair of skis, ‘cus the second you turn you back, they’ll be snatched up.

The story of the swap is rather circular. As any attendee will see, ambitious consumers go hog wild picking up everything their alpine-sport-oriented heart desires.  As the story goes, said gearhead loads up on all forms of skis and excessive equipment with every intention of fully “getting after it,” but, in fact, never does and then-what do you know-the unused gear miraculously appears at the swap the next year for yet another go-around. Never underestimate the shelf life of these products.

All jest aside, the Ski Swap is a highly affordable opportunity to score some quality gear and it is for a good cause. Vendors include your average bro to the best ski shops in Jackson Hole. Remember: the early bird gets the worm!
